How I Became A Princess

Anyone who knows me, knows that my nickname is Princess Christa. However, very few are privy to how that came about. So I thought I would clarify things once and for all.
My uncle (dads brother) has always had an interest in genealogy. He has spent several years tracing our lineage back to my 7th great Grandfather. Somewhere back there we have a famous actor, as well as a Father of Confederation. This peaked my curiosity, so I decided to trace our lineage on my mothers side. To do this, I asked the seniors in my family to help. Namely my grandmother and her brother - my great uncle. I was handed a traced family tree, as well as a blurb to get me started. The blurb said.... "Frederic came with the Prince of Bavaria from Bavaria to Greece, and had a son with him." Now, knowing that in some cultures Frederic can be a womans name, I took that to mean that Frederic and the Prince of Bavaria reproduced, and had a son. This son, Johan, is my grandmothers great grandfather... and if he was the son of a Prince, that makes our family a royal family. So I began tracing the family tree of Frederic, The Prince of Bavaria, and their son Johan. Being that Johan was the son of a Prince, there were plenty of internet resources to support my search. I was able to trace back to the 1500's. Picture it... here I am at work (on my night shifts) with 8x11 papers taped together making a page large enough to trace back several hundreds of years.
When my work was complete, I announced to my on-looking co-workers that I was a Princess...Princess Christa! I then showed my work to my family. My mothers response? "I knew it! I knew we were royalty!" My grandmothers response? "No...this is wrong."
Apparently, the part in the blurb written by her brother about Frederic "having a son with him" meant that when he traveled from Bavaria to Greece, he physically brought his son with him. "You mean I am not a Princess?" By then it was too late. The nickname Princess Christa had stuck. And now, 4 years later, I am more a Princess than I ever was!

A Favourite Quote

There is a line in a song by talented musician Carolyn Arends that really struck me. "The more we learn, the more we know we don't know anything." How many times have I found that true in my own life. Just when I think I am getting the hang of something - a new life skill, a better understanding of God and His Will for my life, a knack for something work related - it is then that I become all too aware of how little I know, and how little I understand. A very humbling experience. I hope I never lose sight of this reality.
